Crush 01:13
Open fire on everything you love / Open fire on everything you call home / Crush.
3.
With or without you / I'm screaming these words / With or without you / Until I have nothing left to say / FUCK IT. This is tragedy / So here's your "love song" / You make me so sick / And I abandoned you the day we met / You could die with half a heart. I wouldn't shed one tear / I would break your heart and bury you in the pieces / You make me sick / And I don’t give a shit anymore / In all your faults, I see my face / I would fucking kill this if I could pull the trigger and if my words weren't firing blanks / So give 'em hell because that’s all you're good for / With or without you / Let’s get one thing perfectly clear: we want blood.
4.
Watch as the warheads fall from the sky / Give me the avian flu, the Bubonic Plague, the worst of our fears / How I would love to end these years / A dose of death for every individual / The dullest blade across the softest throat / An end to all, for all shall end. May you perish with the rest / This is a call to every martyr, every lost soul / Bring the fourth horseman and every bit of hell with him / Let us destroy the rest and leave none breathing / No patience for the living.
5.
"So Saith the Lord" (Lyrics: R. Plasencia/S. Jackson) ["Why did you choose to love a god? I think you’ll find the romance one sided."] I want to be the reason you don't believe in anything / ["Of course there’s a heaven honey." "Prove it."] Open your eyes. One mindset for the masses / This is the perfect death to your happy ending / An education in hypocrisy, a crash course in disbelief / I am not afraid and I call 'em like I see 'em / No trial for your brother, straight to execution / You have the facts. (I am not afraid and I call 'em like I see 'em.) / Where do you stand? / I am not afraid / This story's villain is wearing white / And he is masked under blue skies / This is the fold of your "revolution" / Let Him bleed on the cross, he’s your false resolution / A turning point; the end of faith / This will be your God's dying day / "Vengeance shall be mine," so Saith your Lord / You're shit out of luck and the look on your face is priceless (and I can’t stop laughing) / This is the fallout, this is the end of faith. ["I need to believe in something. Maybe there’s nothing to believe in."]
6.
(Lyrics: R. Plasencia, S. Jackson, J. Lee Davis) ["But I being poor have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly, for you tread on my dreams."] I cant breathe and it’s my dreams that are killing me / The search for inspiration takes its toll and it’s taken a lifetime to turn back and face my past / Running became so easy, and just as easy to forget what I was running from / This life never game me a reason, so I’m balling my fists / I’m fighting back / Tonight can be make or break, because we’re pulling out all the stops / Yet I digress...I cant breathe and it’s my dreams that are killing me / From what I’ve done comes who I am / Now I’ve made my choice and I refuse to die without a voice / No one ever said that this was going to be easy / It’s in this moment I will live forever / With the grace of what I let unfold / Living long enough to spit back everything shoved down my throat / In this moment I will live forever, with the grace of what I let unfold / Inspiration was found where never searched / And even though its taken everything from me / It’s never enough / I refuse to die without a voice / Let my last breath be a sigh of relief.
7.
Plot Holes 04:08
The vocabulary has been scourged / I'm running out of words / And I've got to remind myself that this is just a fairy tale / There’s no way that something can hurt this much and be real / Right? / [Tonight you will get your dick ripped off. That doesn’t sound right does it?] And it all seemed so staged, the way you left and abandoned me / He won’t tell you the words you want to hear / But anymore, I don’t think I know those words / This is bigger than you and me / We played out our scenes / So I will bow out gracefully / The lines are all up / This story so far has played out just the way I begged you not to write / Well, Shakespeare couldn't write a plot twist like this…With my hands around your neck, I will reap everything you've sewn / For every action, every lie, every word / You will die a thousand times over / Squeezing tighter and tighter until the only bones left to break are my hands / Choke. Choking.

All I ever had was this “promise of tomorrow” / Give me another empty hour, I’ll give you a reason to let it go / Let this go / And now all I can do is retrace these fucking memories / As I choke to death on my own regret / These memories are fucking poison / And it’s the noose that I'm hanging from / Time shows its face, and I turn my back (these memories are poison) / These memories are poison / And I know I lie to myself when I say I've never been here / The truth is I've lived here all my life / I can’t find comfort in escape / When every exit leads me to the same goddamn place / It’s okay tonight, because we killed it together / Even though you've left, I've carried on / I can still see a spot for you / For every time that I turned my back, every smile laced with regret / These memories are fucking poison, but they’re all that I have / We built a world we'd love to forget / A brick out of what we built to abandon / Every farewell said is just a heartfelt graveyard / These memories are poison.

about

Built to Abandon by Open Fire!

This was our first full length, with a mostly different line up, different attitude (angrier but with more of a sense of humor), and an overall different vibe. Open Fire! at the time was bred out of the end of two local bands and the members wanting to provide a sound the NWHC scene didn't have much of: hardcore influenced, metal tinged, heavy and melodic songs.

The record was a labor of love, as later was I Am the Curse in 2012. It ended up taking nearly a year and a half from the day we started tracking to the day it was released. It was released on May 25th, 2007 when we played the first ever Rain Fest in Seattle, WA. By the time we released it, half the line up had changed and we were moving in a different direction, so we were able to sneak on a bonus track of an intro and the first recording of "What Means the Most" with the new line up and a different engineer - a song that ended up being rerecorded for I Am the Curse.

It's been a long time that I've reflected on this material, and it's given me some inspiration to revisit some of it...more to come on that front, but for now, here's Built to Abandon in all it's fun glory.
